We see three strands, 1 white, 1 black and one 50% grey. Each are intertwined endlessly around the other two. The picture can't be complete without all three.
This symbol represents the two extremes and mid-points of almost every situation. Black, white, grey. Left, right, center. Up, Down, middle. Steam, ice, water.
Usually when you go too far to either side, there is a natural imbalance that somehow must be equalized on the other side. This natural balance attempts to bring everything back to the middle-point.
Eastern concepts of Yin-Yang (In-Yo) are best known for showing these concepts of balance. However, the current standard understanding only glosses over the natural middle-point. I believe the middle-point is equally if not more important than either side.

If we picture many situations (political, cultural, religious, topical, and so on) as a scale with the 10's equaling the most extreme cases and zero as perfectly neutral, then things become clear.
For example, in the case of two political parties, if we swing completely to 10 and use only the concepts from that party, we find extreme problems created due to holes created from lack of input from the other side. If we swing completely to 10 the other way, different holes are opened for the same reason. The best (but most difficult) action is to have a perfect balance of the two parties.
Often what we see happen is when an issue arises, such as the gun control issue in USA during the late 1900's, early 2000's, we see the "cultural pendulum" swing far in one direction. When the problems of such a drastic swing cause the momentum to swing the other way, there is a brief moment when we reach the most comfortable position of not too much one way and not too much the other. However, the momentum is destined to carry the pendulum too far in the other direction. The swinging process starts all over again.
If you learn to see everything in terms of waves and eddies, flowing back and forth, you begin to capture what is needed to be able to predict the future.
There are many universal secrets hidden in this symbol. Here are some examples:
- Each strand intertwines perfectly with the others
- No strand has a beginning nor an end
- While one strand might be on top at a particular moment, it does not stay there forever
- Grey can not exist on it's own. It is made with equal parts of both black and white
- Black and white can only be measured in relationship to the other
- If any strand is removed the picture is incomplete
